Dominik Mähl DevOps & Platform Engineering

Service

Platform engineering for Kubernetes, cloud, and reliable infrastructure.

I help plan, build, and improve infrastructure platforms for applications - across cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments. The focus is clear architecture, automation, and reliable operations.

Starting point

When infrastructure has grown, but no longer feels clearly controllable.

In many projects, operations somehow work - but changes become slow, responsibilities get unclear, and risks are hard to assess.

  • Deployments are error-prone or too manual.
  • Cloud or Kubernetes setups are hard to understand.
  • Monitoring and alerts help too little when it matters.
  • Teams need a reliable foundation for continuing application development.

What I do

From analysis to handover.

First I clarify which parts of the platform are critical today and where operations, deployments, or ownership slow the team down. The result is a target platform view, prioritized measures, and concrete changes to infrastructure, deployments, and operations.

Analysis & target state

  • Review existing clusters, cloud or on-premise structures, and operational requirements.
  • Turn risks, dependencies, and needed standards into a prioritized action list.

Build & automation

  • Structure Kubernetes, cloud, or on-premise platforms with an IaC and GitOps foundation.
  • Set up deployments, infrastructure, and configuration so changes stay repeatable.

Operations & handover

  • Make backup, restore, updates, monitoring, and runbooks tangible as an operating model.
  • Prepare documented standards and handover material so internal teams can operate the platform.

Typical outcomes

What improves in platform operations.

A platform is only good if it can actually be used and operated day to day.

Operations become more plannable

Clusters, infrastructure, responsibilities, and operating paths are documented well enough to assess risks and changes.

Production-ready platform

Applications get a solid foundation for deployments, operations, updates, and further development.

Operational questions are answered

Backup, restore, updates, monitoring, alerts, and handover are treated as part of the platform before go-live.

Fewer manual interventions

IaC, GitOps, and repeatable deployments reduce manual changes to critical infrastructure.

FAQ

Common questions about Platform Engineering.

Does this always mean building a new platform?

No. A review can also show that a focused action plan, standards, or a cleaner operating model are enough.

Is Kubernetes always necessary?

No. Kubernetes can be useful, but only when complexity, team setup, and operational requirements justify it.

Can you improve existing platforms instead of rebuilding them?

Yes. Stabilizing, optimizing, and clarifying operations is often more sensible than rebuilding everything.

What does a typical project look like?

Usually it starts with a platform review and target state. Then come prioritized implementation, documentation, and handover to operations or internal teams.

Should your platform become clearer and more stable?
